Charged with the vitality and frenetisizm of New York, the Alper quartet performs its brand of jazz reminiscent of the great beboppers of the 50s and 60s but reinterpreted for today's world. Gregory Alper's tenor sax tone has been compared to Sonny Rollins, an undoubted influence. David Durrah's piano exhibits a freedom and excitement all his own, Cameron Brown's bass playing needs no introduction having played with many of jazz's living legends and the drumming of Marc Holen is crisp, lively and to the point. There are some real gems on this recording.
